A lawyer for one of two teachers accused of smoking marijuana in a car near Mililani Middle School denied there was ever any marijuana involved and said it is a misunderstanding.
Police booked Mililani Middle School teachers Lisa Luhrsen and Ben Ayson on charges of promoting detrimental drugs. The two were smoking marijuana in a car before school, police said.
Ayson's attorney, David Gierlach, said the language arts and physical education teacher was not smoking anything illegal.
"The one thing he wanted to make absolutely clear is that he was not smoking dope before school started. He and his friend were sharing a cigarette, a Benson and Hedges cigarette," Gierlach said.
This is indeed frightening. So a couple of teachers shared a before school cigarette and some jerk phones the police? Don't people have anything better to do? I have come across a carful of my co-workers enjoying their tasty death sticks and all I did was make bad jokes. As if teaching children, one of the most poorly paid and thankless jobs on the planet, wasn't bad enough. Now if you are in the teaching profession you get to worry that a nosy parent can end your career.
